Knox Earns Academic All-District Honors

Catherine (Katie) Knox  has been a superior distance runner in both cross country and track and field at the University of Rochester. She has now been recognized for superior academic and athletic skills. Knox has been elected to the Academic All-District III First Team for Track and Field and Cross Country by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

As a First Team Academic All-District honoree, Knox now moves to the national ballot for consideration as an Academic All-American. She is a native of Worcester, Mass. and an alumnus of Notre Dame Academy. This is her second consecutive First Team Academic All-District honor.

In cross country, Knox earned All-University Athletic Association honors for two straight years. She ran at the NCAA cross country championships as an individual in 2014, then with Rochester as a team in 2015. At the 2014 Atlantic Regional Championships, she finished 10th in a field of 272 runners. At the 2015 Atlantic Regionals, she was 13th among 266 runners.

Knox earned First Team All-New York State honors in cross country as a junior. Two of her top performances as a senior came at the SUNY Geneseo Pre-Regional Meet (she was 36th in a field of 453) and at the Rowan Invitational (eighth out of 229).

In outdoor track and field, she set Rochester records in the 5,000 meter run and the 3,000 meter steeplechase. (She broke the 3,000 twice in spring 2016.)  She competed at the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships in the steeplechase in Waverly, Iowa.

Last spring, she studied in Australia. She carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.82 in mechanical engineering. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa this spring. She is a member of Tau Beta Pi, the engineering honor society, and to the Society of Women Engineers. She was a teaching assistant for a mechanical engineering course in statics.

As a junior, Knox was a member of the Provost's Circle, which recognizes the top junior student scholar-athletes. In September, 2015, she was recognized by the Department of Athletics and Recreation as a Garnish Scholar Athlete.
