Four Rochester Men's Basketball players were recently honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for their academic achievement for the 2010-11 academic year. Seniors David Gould (Philadelphia, PA/Germantown Friends), Mike Labanowski (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit), Peter Wen (New York, NY/Packer Collegiate) along with junior Nate Novosel (Lexington, KY/Lexington Catholic) were the players named to the NABC Honors Court.
Gould, a Political Science/Economics major, played and started in all 28 games last season for the Yellowjackets while compiling a scoring average of 7.8 points per game and grabbing 3.0 rebounds per game. Labanowski, majoring in Mechanical Engineering, also started in all 28 games and averaged 10.4 points per game while being the teams outside sharpshooter draining 76 3-point goals last season. He also earned another national honor being named a Second Team Capital One Academic All-American. Wen, a Financial Economics major, appeared in nine games for Rochester. A Political Science/Economics major, Novosel, appeared in 26 games and averaged 13.5 points per game while shooting a team high 60.6% (131-216) from the field.
Three of the four also earned All-UAA honors with Novosel being named to the first team, Labanowski to the second team and Gould earning an Honorable Mention.
To be named, student athletes must be either a junior or senior and have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher.
